In the late 1800's, Rev. N. Kimbrough would host Sunday School weekly in the living room of his family home.
In September of 1890,
Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church
was born.
The small living room gathering would eventually construct and move into its first church home on E. 25th and Oxford Streets. Both Sunday School and Sunday Services would thrive under Rev. Kimbrough's leadership. Kimbrough would serve as pastor until 1896 after accepting the call to pastor another church in Marion, Indiana.

Rev. John F. Broyles
Rev. John F. Broyles was elected pastor during the church’s fifth anniversary. Under Rev. Broyles leadership, the church grew physically and spiritually, which would prompt an expansion to the sanctuary and annex of the Oxford Street location in 1913.
In 1917, Rev. J.F. Broyles would step down after falling terminally ill. Rev. Charles H. Walton would step in as Interim Pastor for one year.

Rev. W.M. Winfrey
After Rev. Walton's Interim and Rev. Broyles death, Rev. William M. Winfrey accepted the pastoral call in 1918.
During Winfrey's leadership, membership would increase and a building expansion would take place onto the Oxford St. location.
After ten years of serving as Pastor, Rev. Winfrey would step down.

Rev. Charles Walton
Rev. Philander Oldham
In 1928, Rev. Charles Walton would become the pastor of Mt. Carmel for 17 years. Great strides were taking under his ministry of redecorating and tackling the debt of the Oxford location.
Rev. Walton was called from labor to reward in 1945 and a small host of ministers would fill the gap of a leader.

After Rev. Walton's passing, Rev. Philander Oldham who was a minister of Mt. Carmel Church would be offered the position of pastor until 1946.

Rev. A.D. Banks
In 1945,
Mississippi-born, Hoosier transplant Rev. A.D. Banks, would accept pastoral leadership.
During the Banks years, the congregation would double in growth, multiple ministries were added that heading repairs on the Oxford location.
Rev. Banks would lead the congregation until 1953 as he would be called to pastor another congregation.

Rev. James Glover
After Rev. Banks' departure, Rev. James Glover became pastor.
Nineteen ministries would continue to nourish under Glover with the assistance of multiple dedicated deacons and ministers.
Rev. Glover would serve the Mt. Carmel Church until 1962.

Rev. Dr. T.T. Newman
In 1963,
Rev. Dr. Taft Talmadge "T.T." Newman by way of Marion, Indiana would be called to the Mt. Carmel Church.
In 19 Dr. Newman deemed "The Vision" of moving to a new sanctuary as Mt. Carmel continued to outgrew their E. 25th Street location.

Rev. Dr. Theron D. Williams would accept pastoral leadership of the church. Since then, the Lord has added many souls to the body of Christian believers at Mt. Carmel Church.
Pastor Williams through his anointed preaching and teaching ability has been a source of strength, inspiration, and encouragement to a great number of newly ordained and experienced ministers preaching the word of God.

Rev. Dr. Theron D. Williams
Within the first few years, A new building expansion deemed the "Gymnatorium" due to its ability to be used for multi-purpose events, was built onto the E. 36th Street location soon after mortgage burning and would open soon thereafter.
Radio and television ministries were established, and the congregation grew to proportions that necessitated three services—two on Sunday and one on Wednesday night.

A New Shift
Due to increasing membership, multiple services, and new ministries being developed around the area, a new location was in consideration. After heavy consecration, prayer, and faith, A plot of land close to the city limits East of Indianapolis would be purchased on E. 42nd St. for future development and ministry reach.
Though this great investment was made, there was still the need for a new sanctuary. Hence came the unique opportunity to build onto a former school at 4352 N. Mitthoefer Rd.
In July of 1999, Mt. Carmel would walk in to their new sanctuary with great anticipation going into the 21st century.
During these next several years, our ministries would develop into a central hub for community and growth.
After just over a decade of continued ministry on Mitthoefer, the next chapter would be written just around the corner.
Though this great investment was made, there was still the need for a new sanctuary. Hence came the unique opportunity to build onto a former school at 4352 N. Mitthoefer Rd.
In July of 1999, Mt. Carmel would walk in to their new sanctuary with great anticipation going into the 21st century.

In August of 2009,
The members of Mt. Carmel Church and the Indianapolis community would march into 9610 E. 42nd St. with celebration and much anticipated excitement.

The Far Eastside of Indianapolis is known as a disadvantaged section of the city, the Mt. Carmel Community Development Corporation would be established in 2016 to intentionally discuss how to disrupt the trend of unhealthy food resources, unethical financial practices, and underperforming education institutions.
With those foundational problems in mind, the MCCDC would introduce the E3 Project to the congregation. For the past decade, initiatives under the E3 have taken shape such as a mobile grocery store, father's farm, farmer's market
